Henam Border Collie Puppies
(Maeve x Pete)

Thundering Paws is pleased to list some stellar 6-month-old pups for sale by Henam Border Collies. These pups are from the same lines as Thundering Paws Farm. In fact, they were sired by Strafford Peter, out of Henam’s Maeve, who was bred here at Thundering Paws Farm.

Peter needs no introduction. He is the #1 Dog at Thundering Paws Farm: stylish, focused, supremely confident. Pete is the son of the current International Champion, Clwyd Bob.

Maeve is the most resilient female I have ever bred. She is gritty, determined and smart. Her sire is the 2-time Irish brace champion, who has placed 3 times in the Top-15 International Supreme, this year achieving #4: Dean.McAuley’s Joe. Maeve gets her toughness from Meg, her style from Joe.

This pairing unites Thundering Paws Farm’s best lines, the dam and sire are from the two best breeding females, Nel and Meg, with grandsires and great-grandsires of distinction:

  • Martin Feeney’s famed Jack (Meg’s sire)
  • Dewi Jenkins’ Clwyd Bob and Jock (both Supreme Champions)
  • James McCloskey’s Sweep (Nel’s sire)
  • Dean McAuley’s Joe

Henam Border Collies

Read the About Section of the Henam Border Collies website to see how the Henam breeding approach is different (from Thundering Paws and generally).

My observations about Henam working collies:

  • Absolute tops in pre-natal and post-natal care: nutrition, preventatives, vaccinations.
  • Intense stimulation, development and human relationship-building from the very first days.
  • Early interactions with sheep and farm life. Private time with their trainer. Group interactions where they can see ‘how it’s done’ by the senior dogs at Henam.
  • Produces forward, confident pups in touch with their natural instincts.

Henam working collie puppies have the kind of start to life I wish I could give all of mine: enrichment of every kind in great supply. Henam works in very low volumes and an absolute 100% commitment to the pups.

The Henam pups are fully vaccinated: Nobivac Edge DAPPV + Letpo 4, Rabies, Lyme. They are on Interceptor monthly preventatives.

Henam pups are priced commensurate with their breeding and demonstrated abilities. These are premium working collies, who will be both ISDS (International Sheep Dog Society) and ABCA (American Border Collie Association) registered.

Ka’amaru

Ka’amaru is a young Border Collie bred first and last to work, and it shows in everything he does. From about five weeks of age he has been all business on stock, reading sheep with the kind of quiet certainty you usually see in an old hand, not a pup. He is fearless without being foolish. He will walk straight into pressure, take on difficult sheep and would likely do the same with cattle, yet he listens well to his handler and makes the right choice in almost every situation. Athletic and obedient, he has the nerves of a seasoned hill dog and a calm center that does not shake.

Away from stock he is a gentleman. Ka’amaru is very driven when asked, but extremely docile in the house: calm, silent, and steady. Crate trained and naturally clean, he has not had a single accident since being given his own crate nearly two months ago. He loves people, gets along well with other dogs, and carries himself with a kind of easy grace that is hard to teach and harder to find. One blue eye and one brown mark his face, but his true distinction lies in his dependability and mental stability. For a serious working home that wants a dog of real substance who can also live peaceably at their side, Ka’amaru is the genuine article. For the right active companion home, Ka’amaru would be as steady and pleasant a housemate as he is a worker in the field.

Cidrema

Cidrema moves across the field like a small, determined ballerina, light on her feet yet sure of her purpose. From five weeks of age she was one of the first to go out and meet the world, taking it in with a steady, untroubled gaze. On stock she has a clear presence of mind that settles dogs, sheep, and people alike. Her natural flanks are clean, her feel for movement is razor sharp, and she carries a quiet toughness that lets her stand up to bolder siblings without losing her composure. She is extraordinarily handler focused, watching her person with the same care she gives to her stock, and has already begun to treat the humans as her mentors, shadowing them as they walk out patterns in the field. Responsive, motion-hungry, and acrobatic, she is built to be a serious little sheepdog.

Off the field, Cidrema is as personable as they come. She loves people and other dogs, welcomes affection almost as much as work, and has a waggle in her hind end that wins over everyone she meets. She is resilient and physically strong, with a rough coat and striking facial markings that look almost like carefully applied makeup. In the house she can settle and stay calm, provided her mind and body are used each day. For a handler who will give her consistent encouragement and clear, kind leadership, Cidrema offers the rare balance of real working talent and the makings of a devoted companion. For an active companion home that wants a dog to share long walks, real play, and quiet evenings on the sofa, Cidrema would be a deeply engaging, affectionate, and steady little housemate.

Yago

Yago is clever, nimble, and intense, with her mother’s feral intelligence, grit, and unshakable devotion. In character, courage, and talent she is her dam’s mirror. When the work is on, she is resilient and sharp, quick to read a situation and quicker still to respond. She was the first of her litter to take in new commands, the first to solve any puzzle or game, and she carries an excellent recall and natural obedience that make her a pleasure to handle. With the right training she is tough enough for real work on sheep or cattle, and she has the raw instinct and stamina to match.

When the work is done, Yago turns into a soft, affectionate little soul. She loves people, is very calm in close quarters, and gets along beautifully with other dogs, including the small and delicate ones. She will hop into your lap to ask for affection, content to soak up touch and attention. For a serious working home she offers true grit in a manageable frame, and for the right active companion home she promises a devoted, biddable friend who can lie quietly by your side after a day’s honest exercise. She is, in every sense, a gem of a dog.

Arion

Arion is jubilant, scrappy, and unwaveringly devoted to his people. His herding talent showed itself at five weeks of age, and by eight weeks he was confidently moving the heaviest sheep off their hay with the clear, steady purpose of a much older dog. He remains keen on stock, athletic, and mentally stable, with the most refined recall of his litter and a ready, willing response to his handler. He is strong enough to stand up for himself and carries the blood of top working Border Collies: grandpup of Dean McAuley’s Joe and Dewi Jenkins Clwyd Bob, and great‑grandpup of Martin Feeney’s Jack, James McCloskey’s Sweep, and H. J. Francis’ Glan Y Gors Tadgh.

What sets Arion apart, however, is the depth of his attachment to humans. With his one bright blue eye he studies his person with both a worker’s seriousness and a rare, almost startling tenderness. He has no issues with other dogs, yet his heart is not divided; he would be happiest as an only dog in a home where his devotion is met in kind. For a working or active companion home that can give him real engagement, clear guidance, and daily presence, Arion offers the kind of partnership that becomes the measure of all dogs that follow. He is cherished here, and his placement will be made only with a family that can truly give him the love he craves and deserves.
